VMware: Intelligent transformation – from pocket to data center, from edge to cloud

The last couple of years have certainly brought a lot of bumps along the way as customers modernize their IT and want to return value and benefits to their core business. Lenovo and VMware work closely to bring the intelligent, cost-effective solutions customers are looking for to market. From remote Edge 5G Telco and Near Edge AI and Kubernetes driven applications for retail and ROBO to usage-based, consumption-based hybrid cloud, VMware and Lenovo did the job for you to be successful.

Lenovo announced an expansion to its Tech World conference TruScale HaaS platform that spans all of Lenovo’s franchises, making TruScale an XaaS offering that spans every line of products from smartphones, tablets and PCs to edge and data center hardware, software and services. A new VMware vSAN and Tanzu-based edge computing solution based on the ThinkSystem SE350, Lenovo’s compact, versatile edge server designed for demanding remote environments.

As a Diamond Sponsor at VMworld 2021 and winner of the VMware Partner of the Year – Innovation Award for Global Alliances, Lenovo will feature many of these joint innovations in its breakout sessions, as highlighted below. Be sure to Visit us at VMworld 2021 Online to find out how Lenovo + VMware can enable your customers to intelligently transform everything from mobile devices to edge to data centers and clouds.

  • Present and future of corporate AI [VI3068S]
As AI becomes more and more prevalent in companies, many IT professionals are faced with the challenge of how best to enable new AI workloads without creating unique IT environments. Additional complexity in AI deployments includes collaborating with new stakeholders, supporting new types of users, and adapting to hybrid IT environments. IT engineers shouldn’t become AI experts, and data scientists shouldn’t be IT experts. Fortunately, IT pros can now easily support AI workloads in their VMware vSphere environment with the latest AI enterprise solutions from NVIDIA, VMware and Lenovo. In this session, we’ll share some of the trends that are affecting enterprise AI, new solutions to drive enterprise AI initiatives, and even provide insight into new innovations that will further accelerate accelerated workloads in the data center.

  • Cumulus SAP: Large SAP HANA instances for the hybrid cloud [MCL2851S]
Running SAP applications in the cloud while controlling data is critical in today’s hybrid cloud world. By using VMware vSAN and SAP HANA HCI with Lenovo ThinkAgile systems, the largest database applications can be activated on-site, while the VMware Cloud Foundation is used to control the entire SAP application landscape. Learn how large hosting providers are using software-defined infrastructures to meet the needs of their large SAP customers. This session covers the VMware and Lenovo HCI roadmap and shows the largest SAP HANA instances running on vSAN and Lenovo ThinkAgile VX 4U 8-socket systems while using the VMware Cloud Foundation to manage the SAP application landscape .

  • Front runner: Centrally managed two-node vSAN clusters [EDG2982S]
This session presents a new remote edge computing solution that provides a two-node high availability cluster with Wi-Fi or wired connectivity with an LTE backup link. The solution uses small, rugged edge servers that support extended temperature, shock and vibration and includes an integrated local access point. The solution offers a small footprint and a cost-effective way to extend the VMware vSphere infrastructure to the edge and manage it with existing vSphere administration tools. Learn how to set up and manage the solution from a central location using a remote VMware vSAN witness and vSphere Lifecycle Manager. Also, learn about the capabilities of VMware SASE for managing all edge networks from a central location.

  • Ready for the new storage technology in next year’s enterprise servers? [VI2334]
Technical decision-makers should be armed with the tradeoffs of revolutionary storage technologies and hierarchies that will emerge in next year’s enterprise servers. The transition of server memory from DDR4 to DDR5 DRAM, coupled with the increased number of CPU memory channels, will improve memory bandwidth (possibly doubling) and capacity for applications. Further improvements are expected from CPU on-package memory, on-die DMA engines, PCIe Gen 5 I / O and a new coherent CPU I / O Interconnect (CXL). We’ll examine all of the above and examine the trends over the past few years in terms of capacity, latency, bandwidth, and performance of these upcoming corporate servers per core. Using real-world applications, VMware vSphere, and actual server platforms, we will also discuss the estimated performance of a number of future storage expansion technologies.

-Richard Brunner, Principal Engineer & CTO Server Platform Technologies, VMware
    -Gregory Pruett, Distinguished Engineer, Lenovo
