BEIJING, April 1, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Five years later China announced the establishment of the Xiong’an New Area, a 1,770 square kilometer site in north china Hebei province about a two hour drive away BeijingThe foundations of the new “dream city” are miraculously taking shape, with construction cranes dominating the skyline, new modern buildings springing up one after the other, and a magnificent landscape created with trees, forests, and wetlands dominating the Reflect the city’s focus on innovation and green development.
When the blueprint for Xiong’an, described by top leadership as “a crucial strategy for a millennium to come,” was unveiled April 1, 2017it attracted great attention from around the world, which many praised of China Daring to embark on such a massive project and literally build a whole new metropolis from the ground up. Others wondered if China may perform another miracle with its vision for future life and development after two successful precedents, Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and Shanghai Pudong New Area, led the whole country to where it is today.
In many ways, Xiong’an represents of China Vision of the next stage of development in several areas. It is expected to become a high-level socialist modern city that is green, low-carbon, intelligent, livable and relatively competitive by the end of 2035. By the middle of this century it should become an important part of the world. step Beijing–tianjin–hebei city cluster.
In interviews with the Global Times, local residents, construction workers, businesses, authorities and experts described the extraordinary changes Xiong’an has seen over the past five years despite a series of challenges. It’s a sleepless construction site and a breathtaking glimpse of futuristic urban life that embodies the efficiency, strength, resilience and foresight of the Chinese system.
Now, five years after the blueprints were finalized, numerous changes are taking place on this land that are being revealed to the world of China orderly but unwavering urge to make his dream city come true.
Zhang Kun, a 35-year-old engineer at China Railway 12th Bureau Group Co under China Railway Construction Corp (CRCC), was one of the chief engineers for the Xiong’an railway station project. During his two-year work, from the end of 2018 to 2020, he felt the transformation of Xiong’an from a seemingly rural place to a modern city.
“When I first came from a previous project in Xiong’an chongqing, I felt a great gap coming from a big city to a rural area. At that time, I mainly saw villages and farmland in Xiong’an. Now roads are being built, resettlement houses are being built, and aid facilities and skyscrapers are also being built. The changes are huge,” Zhang told the Global Times.
Ren DakaiHead of Xiong’an New Area Digital Transportation Lab, recalled that the most obvious change in Xiong’an is convenient transportation thanks to the increase in bullet trains that commute between them Beijing and Xiong’an every day. Also, the accommodations are much better with buildings designed with modern concepts.
Now living in a relocated house in east Rongcheng, a part of Xionong’an, Ren is quite content with the community, which is fully equipped with facilities such as gyms and children’s playgrounds. There are educational institutions such as kindergartens and elementary schools and a large park within 3 kilometers, he said, describing Xiong’an as the “last place” where he could fight for a career, although he has only been in the region for about two years settled before.
What these people experienced are aspects of numerous changes that have taken place or are ongoing in the Xiong’an New Area. Since its inception, Xiong’an has completed 177 key projects with a total investment of 618.4 billion yuan ($97.4 billion). At peak times, more than 200,000 workers are employed on the construction projects, according to the Xiong’an Management Committee.
Many pioneering infrastructure projects have already been completed. Trains have started commuting on the intercity railway line between Xiong’an and Beijing after the construction of the Xiong’an railway station and the completion of 939 resettlement houses in the Rongdong area. The general formation of road networks, ecological corridors and waterways has also taken shape.
By March, central-level state-owned enterprises had set up more than 100 branches in Xiong’an. Registered companies that show sources of capital in Beijing amounted to 3,600, which according to media reports accounts for about 80 percent of the region’s total investments.
A frequently mentioned feature of Xiong’an’s construction is speed, summed up as “Xiong’an Speed”. It is both right and wrong, experts said, as Xiong’an’s overall planning was very neat and meticulous, while the actual implementation of his design was faster than people’s expectations, a reflection of not only of China efficiency in implementing plans, but also a testament to the country’s technological prowess, which has helped reduce implementation times.
Take Xiong’an railway station as an example. It took only about two years to complete the 475,200-square-foot station, setting a record for the speed of construction for stations of a similar size. Accordingly Zhang Kunit usually takes three years to erect such a building China.
This speed is not uncommon in the construction of Xiong’an’s infrastructure. In building the Xiong’an Citizen Service Center, 5,000 workers from China State Construction managed to complete 50,000 meters of welding work in just 20 days while installing 12,200 tons of steel frames in more than three weeks, about two or three times faster than normal speed, said the enterprise.
According to experts and industry insiders, Xiong’an speed is made possible through careful planning and technological advances. For example, Zhang Kun revealed that his team changed the norm from “five departments and one office” to “nine departments and two offices” when building Xiong’an Station. What was added was the scientific department to drive technological improvements and intelligent construction.
Accordingly Zhang Kunthe CRCC set up several technical workshops to apply the latest technologies in the construction of the project, such as B. Welding robots and intelligent steel processing equipment, which helped to reduce the project time.
Zhang Gui, Secretary General of the College of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Collaborative Development under Nankai University told the Global Times that Xiong’an’s development is generally consistent with its original plan.
“Compared to many other regions, Xiongan’s planning is complete and scientific, and has taken a correspondingly long time. That makes later implementation much smoother,” he said.
High Tech Xion’an
Aside from the emphasis on speed, China is also investing resources in the region to boost its high-tech industries, from 5G and autonomous driving to cloud computing and blockchain.
Since the founding of Xiong’an New Area, more and more 5G technologies have been implemented, and application scenarios such as 5G intelligent robots, intelligent buses and parks have been continuously enriched. For example, the parking lot next to Xiong’an Railway Station has been incorporated into a pilot zone for self-driving cars and the Internet of Vehicles.
According to Ren, autonomous driving technologies to which he is now committed have accelerated in Xion’an since the initial testing phase, when technology companies like Baidu conducted their autonomous driving trial based on a 5G network environment in 2018.
“Compared to other cities, Xiongan is like a blank sheet of paper. New technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things are easier to implement. It can take full advantage of these technologies and build a smart new city,” said Ren.
Zhang Gui also praised Xiong’an’s planning as a vivid portrayal of of China Wisdom since the country showed the world a “Chinese model” of what a modern city looks like and where of China future economic dynamics lies.
“Xiong’an’s planning is a manifestation of this China no longer focuses only on the scale of cities, but seeks to build new modern cities with characteristics such as low-carbon, intelligent, livable and high-quality development,” he said. “It is an epitome of a fresh start for a new era. “
The economist also emphasized that Xiong’an is a model of of China Modernization comprehensive rather than just focusing on specific urban functions.
importance to the world
Experts also noted that Xiong’an can play to its economic strength as the world economic situation develops, thus making a contribution of China Economic growth and global industrial chains.
According to Zhang Gui, the trend towards regionalization is growing against the background of globalization developments, such as the formation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) trade bloc. Therefore, Xiong’an should find its position in such a new global economic pattern and strive to participate in relevant industrial chains.
For example, it will actively absorb and gather innovative factor resources in the world, and build high-tech industries from a high starting point after taking on certain non-capital functions Beijinghe said.
As globalization shifts from a model of trade in bulk goods to trade in services, Xiong’an can study the construction of a demonstration area for digital trade development, establish rules for digital trade development in line with national conditions, and adhere to formulating international trade rules and agreements for databases both in China and abroad with its booming digital economy, Zhang Gui said.
