Charge your home network with the D-Link DMS-106XT 6-Port Multi-Gigabit-Switch

With the DMS-106XT, D-Link has launched a high-performance, unmanaged switch with five 2.5 Gbit / s Ethernet ports and one 10 Gbit / s Ethernet port, which makes it a great option for Media, file sharing and gaming power. It also looks good there.

You can connect all six Ethernet ports to any device, but it makes a lot of sense to use the 10 Gbps Ethernet port for a NAS server to maximize throughput on your network. iTWire tried the DMS-106XT with the 10 Gbps port connected to a Synology DS1621 + NAS and a desktop connected to a 2.5 Gbps port; our multi-gigabyte file copies back and forth were quick and painless, with the progress bar passing at unprecedented speed. In all of our tests and with regular use, it has provided a trouble-free, reliable, quiet, and high-speed network connection.

The switch also offers an intelligent turbo mode to provide Quality of Service (QoS) and port-based priority for uninterrupted online gaming and 4K streaming.

On a managed switch, you need to set up a set of rules for QoS to work by specifying the amount of bandwidth you want to allocate to specific applications. D-Link has simplified QoS on the DMS-106XT so that you only have to press a button to turn it on or off, and it then prioritizes traffic based on the switch port. Port 1 therefore has priority over port 2, both of which have priority over port 3, and so on up to port 5. The 10Gb port has the same priority as port 1. You can physically connect your devices so that your most important network requirements are met use the ports with the lower numbers. For example, you can connect your smart TV to port 1 for seamless streaming while your printer is connected to port 5.

Physically, the switch has LEDs that conveniently display the port speed status, has a quiet fanless operation and is housed in a robust, matt gray aluminum housing. Its slim design has even earned it a Good Design Award. The Good Design Award is a comprehensive design assessment that has been recognized around the world since 1957 for recognizing products with good design and focuses on five ideals: humanity, honesty, innovation, aesthetics and ethics.
