(MANILA/SINGAPORE – May 27, 2022) – Aboitiz Data Innovation (ADI), the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) unit of Aboitiz Group, recently announced the launch of Parlay, a data exchange platform that will help further accelerate the organization’s digital transformation goals . On Parlay, companies across the group’s diverse industries can share and receive unprecedented access to data from companies across the industry spectrum from energy to banking and financial services, manufacturing, land, infrastructure and food, to name a few.
The first phase of Parlay’s launch will focus on signing the Group’s deals with the goal of opening Parlay to external organizations as part of the second phase. Through Parlay, organizations will have unprecedented access to datasets from some of the region’s largest companies to inspire opportunities to create new opportunities or solve business challenges. Parlay can help companies find solutions to problems ranging from financial inclusion to emissions reduction, by comparing and examining data from other sectors to solve problems easier than ever.
ADI aims to simplify the complex world of data to drive the digital transformation of the 100+ year old company by operationalizing DSAI across all business areas. These efforts are part of the group’s “Great Transformation” plans to continue to make the company more resilient and future-ready to respond to challenges and seize opportunities and growth in an increasingly digital world.
As Asia Pacific accelerates toward a digital society, where it is estimated that at least 1 billion people will access digital services, data will be critical to meeting that demand and creating more equal opportunity in places like the Philippines and beyond . Data sharing enables infinite possibilities to address business, economic, social and environmental challenges through new perspectives, patterns and synergies that can be identified by comparing different industry datasets.
While many organizations agree on the benefits of data sharing, its adoption remains low across the region due to a number of challenges. Data kept in silos, complicated and lengthy legal processes, and concerns about losing control over the shared data have been cited as key barriers to adopting data sharing, all of which Parlay addresses. The idea behind the platform is to create a place where companies can get inspiration and visualize possible new creative synergies by examining data from other sectors. Comparing data enables companies to find new solutions to problems that have hampered economic and social progress in the region.
dr David R. Hardoon, Managing Director of Aboitiz Data Innovation, emphasized: “Data is the business of today. We’re thrilled to provide Parlay, a place where you can trade the vast amounts of data you’ve collected for something even bigger and better – an infinite number of possibilities. Ultimately, we want Parlay users to engage with data of all kinds and be inspired to do everything from developing new products and services, to rethinking business models and ways of working, to solving challenges that improve people’s lives be able.”
Parlay was developed in partnership with Harbr, a data exchange and trading platform that enables data innovation through collaboration. Parlay was built on a Harbr platform with the aim of providing a central place for managing, sharing and collaborating on data products across the AEV portfolio by automating data sharing agreements, enabling secure multi-party collaboration and connecting data sets to be generated create new insights.
Anthony Cosgrove, Harbr Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, comments, “Harbr was built to power the world’s data products and enable real-time collaboration to unlock insights and the value of data. We are excited to partner with ADI and AEV on their goal of bringing diverse companies across diverse industries together to work together on data and deliver both business and real outcomes to millions of people.”
Parlay is currently being used by companies across the Aboitiz Group’s key business areas, with external organizations from both the public and private sectors being invited to participate in pilot programs on Parlay in the second phase of deployment. The ultimate goal is to have more companies enrolled on the platform over time to further facilitate data sharing across industries, companies and regions. This flagship initiative helps Aboitiz Data Innovation achieve its goal of making life better and easier by making data less monolithic and turning it into a valuable resource that can help companies digitize and create new products and services to improve accessibility for the wider community.
